Q. I want to learn how to play jazz piano chords?
A. If you know how to play piano chords well, jazz chords are an easy transition. Jazz chords are basic chord structures that have slight changes to alter the sound. For example, take a C7 Major chord. Now instead of playing a B, play a Bb. You're now playing a regular C7...a dominant chord that's very common in jazz. Other common changes are C9 or a D on top....C,b5 or playing a Gb instead of G...the list goes on. There are many books to help you with this process. Go to the local music shop or look online. My favorite site for this is wwbw.com.
I want information to improve my chords while playing piano/Synth?
Q. I know how to write melody for any songs, but sometimes i have problem getting the chords and particularly I dont know when to use Minor chords, Diminished, Aug, C7, C9. I dont know the difference.
A. Here is the chords for a major scale and it's relative minor (Cmaj/Amin)
Cmaj7,Dm7,Em7,Fmaj7,G7,Am7,Bm7b5
This is a good place to start. Good luck
I would like to arrange a pop song into a bossa feel. Help?
Q. Is there anything I should know? Like the style or instruments involved. I quite well trained in classical music but I'm not sure if that helps. Haha. Also, should be chords be changed too? Sorry if this question is a bit vague. I know nothing on bossa.
A. rhythm plays a big big deal. chords should be "jazzed" up (ex: C-->Cmaj7,Cmaj9,C6 (major) or C7,C9,C13 (dominant), you should know your chords and chord symbols like º = fully diminished, which usually has a dim7, which is a bb7, double flatted 7th) in reference to the progression, add some tension notes. Listen to bossa for ideas, and how to play the rhythms. bossa usually has a piano (and/or guitar), bass, drums, and lead instrument(s) (or voice). Bass and drums establish style.
Listen to songs like:
How Insesntive (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VfV7q3NIkQo)
One Note Samba (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jb7LqPmWBKw)
Blue Bossa (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6sr7BXinJMw)
O Barquinho (Little Boat) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXVWtePwWyE)
The drums HAVE to be on point, if not it WILL sound bad (listen for the accents). Listen for bass rhythms and patterns they use in the progression (they repeat a lot in different songs). Piano comp-ing is short, light, and separated, and most of all have confidence when u practice. Study some bossa songs and standard

this is an except from the C Real Book, which I highly recommend you get. Its full of jazz standards and has everything from bossa, to afro, to swing, to bebop. It has a lot a lot of songs. Perfect for jazz combos and gigs. You probably can find a virtual copy some where online like on 4shared.com or whatnot, but thats up to you to find. Hoped it helps
edit: the drummer needs brushes
