Q. I'm currently taking violin and piano lessons and it's already taking a huge toll on my wallet and my free days, so I don't think I can really find an instructor until much, much later.
In any event, how difficult is it to teach yourself the guitar? And does anyone have any resources for a beginning guitarist?
A. While this website is kinda old, it actually taught me some things that my guitar teacher neglected. Right away you'll learn some of the easiest chords to play, the good habit of alternate picking, and some good hand exercises. Plus, he doesn't ignore how useful the ability to read music is.

He kinda presumes you're playing an electric, but it works for acoustic too...just ignore the electric specific stuff.
Edit: As a side note: The guitar, like the violin, uses the treble clef, and the 1st string (thinnest) E played in open position reads the same as a violin. Unlike the violin the guitar is tuned (from thickest to thinnest) E, A, D, G, B, E.
When is it too late to learn to play the piano?
Q. I had piano lessons about 20 years ago but didn't keep up with it. I regret it now! I'm 27, is it too late to learn to play well? Especially if you can't practise between lessons, I can't have a piano where I live.
A. It is never too late, I was older than you when I learned.
I took traditional lessons, but didn't really "get it" unitl I learned by chords.
Here is a great resource: www.easilylearnpiano.com
Better on the budget than lessons which can run about $40 per hour
Good luck!
The Piano poll-Who can answer all of my questions I have about piano & reading music?
Q. 1)How is learning to read music like learning a new language?
2)How do you use a piano chord chart for the left and right hand?
3)How do you get yourself to play piano using both hands?
4)Is learning piano really that hard to do?
5)How can I tell if I am gifted or not?
6)How do I give my brain more information about piano?
7)How does reading something about piano over and over help your brain get used to it about piano?
A. 1)How is learning to read music like learning a new language?
Because there are whole new concepts and little details to learn. It is much like learning a new language; music.
2)How do you use a piano chord chart for the left and right hand?
I don't.
3)How do you get yourself to play piano using both hands?
I'm a good sightreader (thank God) so I naturally start with both hands.
4)Is learning piano really that hard to do?
Depends on who you are, really. It requires a lot of hard work, determination, motivation, time, and money (if you take lessons)
but mainly it's up to you. So it depends on your work ethic and dedication.
5)How can I tell if I am gifted or not?
You don't HAVE to be gifted to play piano. Anybody can learn.
But you can tell if you're gifted if you can naturally play harder stuff, I guess.
6)How do I give my brain more information about piano?
For me, it's just happened over the years. I've been playing since I was 7. (I'm 14 now) I just haven't quit.
7)How does reading something about piano over and over help your brain get used to it about piano?
Because that's some people's learning style, reading something over and over again. I don't really do that, so I wouldn't know.
