Q. i want to start playing guitar but i dont know were to start what to buy or how to learn after i buy a guitar
A. If you were my student I'd go with you to a guitar shop and look for a nice acoustic in the $100 to $150 range...I'd get you some light gauge strings for it...a Mel Bay Chord Book with pictures and illustrations...a cheap tuner and teach you how to tune it...it's good to know where the notes are on the piano in relation to open plucked strings...we might spend $200 at the most and then we'd start working on learning a few simple chords so we can put a few songs together to make it interesting...if you're still interested and have made progress in a few weeks time I'd start teaching you some lead...simple stuff...and then get more complicated as you progressed...just don't buy a cheap assed guitar from a pawn shop when you're just learning to play...you won't know what to look for and will probably end up wasting your money and not learn a damn thing because it will be so frustrating to try and play a messed up instrument. The first month or two will be difficult because you have to toughen up your fingers...that's why I say go with light gauge strings...heaviest strings an electric will take and lightest an acoustic will take...something that doesn't have a wound "G" but is still heavy enough to make the acoustic resonate pretty good. Then you just practice daily...maybe a couple hours a day fiddling about with it. Listen to what sounds you produce and always make sure that you put the sound of the guitar above any other physical discomfort you may experience in the first few weeks of practice and learning.
