Q. I'm a bass/guitarist I don't know piano chords, so don't give me a tab with all the letter chords on it. If there's a video you think would work, or if you think you could find away to tell me understandable, I would be thankful.
A. if your gonna play piano, you need to know how to read the staff. I don't mean to sound nasty, but you need to know...

how do i add more notes to plain piano chords?
Q. you know how theres people who read chords and add a bunch a notes to the song based on the chords? how do i do that?
A. do you know the notes in the scales of the chords youre using? if so:
adding the 7th note of the scale will give you a sound of suspense.
adding the 2nd, 4th & 6th notes make different "far out" kinda sounds, you call those 9th, 11th and 13th chords (as though you add the number onto the top of the scale, confusing i know but its pretty simple)
repeating the 5th is totally hardcore.
sticking a flat 5th in there (if it's a minor chord) will make the song sound sinister.
in fact, you can add pretty much any notes from the scale in there, one "rule" is try not to repeat the 3rd note. just experiment.
How to learn to play Piano in order to write songs?
Q. I sing and use piano to write songs but only very basicly on keys as I have not learnt piano properly, what tips can you give me or what is the best way to learn more in order for me to write better.
I dont mean reading piano music I just want to be able to understand enough to be able to write more complex songs, Thanks!
I know basic chords
A. When you write a song you need to know what a chord progression is. Since you already know basic chords, you need to learn common chord progressions.
A chord progression is just a set of chords that normally come after each other. For example, of you are in the key of C, a chord that generally comes after a C would be and F or G. Then Am. You just need to take a look at some of the more common progressions there are, and learn them, and then apply them to the songs you are writing
Usually when I write songs I come up with the melody, then add the chords. But sometimes its good to get the progression before. It all depends on how you personally write. There are a few of the most common progression at the site in the source. Take a look and see if any of them will help you in your writing.
