Help learning jazz piano?

Q. Looking for any websites or videos starting with the basics on up. Any advice would also be appreciated..

A. Jazz just means decorated. A christmas tree is a jazzed up tree. Theres a REALLY good book you can get that will take you through exercises, it explains EVERYTHING.
HANON-JAZZ

Hanon also make books for classical, blues and boogie (The blues book will help with the Jazz too!)
Click on my avatar and add me as a contact and then read through all the answers I have written for others-theres a HEAP of information there!)
In the mean time if your chord says C play CMajor7 instead, if it says Cm play Cminor7 instead.
Major = Major 7
minor = minor 7
If it already says CM7 then make it CM9 instead, and Cm7 would become Cm9 (And remember that any chord that goes ABOVE the number 7 HAS still got the 7 in it! Never take it out!)
The easiest and best way to turn a standard chord into Jazz is to add the next CHORD note on top of the standard chord. Try playing twinkle twinkle little star using CM7 FM7 and G9 instead of C F and G7 and it will instantly sound like jazz!

Heres a chord progression for you.

CM7 Dm7 CM7 Dm7 Em7 FM7 Em7 FM7 and repeat.
Play those chords in your left hand for a whole bar each and then with your right hand play ANY note from the C scale (You can add the occassional F# if you like) and you'll be sounding like a jazz professional in no time)
Once you've got that under control try playing your LH chords with a rhythm to it.

All the best

Original Question

Does anyone have an example of a chilled RnB piano chord progression?
Q. Just write the chord names if you like, Thanks x

A. Its all in how you attack the chords...like say for instance you were playing a 12 bar blues progression in E then it would go E to A to E then to the five chord of B...and that is really bluesy...but if you ad 9th chords and 7th chords those chords in turn will become very jazz and laid back if you play them in a jazzy mood...i think thats what you ment by laid back...hopes this helps

Original Question

Jazz on the piano?
Q. I've been playing piano for 2 months. I am in lvl 2 beginning book. I know I am nowhere near close to be playing jazz on the piano. My questions are:

1) Is jazz on the piano hard?
2) Does it take a very skilled piano player to be able to play jazz?

A. 1) Jazz on the piano is not any harder than learning any other style of piano. You first have to learn the techniques for playing and then apply those to the jazz idiom.

2) You don't have to be very skilled to play jazz, poorly, but you have to be proficient on your instrument to play well in any style. Do you have to be skilled to play classical music or pop music? yes. Jazz is the same.

Learn your scales, music theory, chord progressions and voicings and listen listen listen to jazz artists that you like - not only pianists, but all musicians.

Even the most basic beginning jazz piano books take a pretty advanced skill level. Keep after it - keep playing and learning!
