what are some easy piano songs?
Q. looking for a step up because ive done, mary had a little lamb, twinkle twinkle, jingle bells & aaway in a manger. What sort of songs would be the next step up? and chords please?
A. Chopsticks (: not sure what the chords are right now but they're all over the internet and pretty simple (:
why is piano lesson's soo boring at the start?
Q. i picked up piano lessons about a month ago and i thought it was pretty good but later i discovered how boring the freaking theory book was. Im on level one and my teacher only teaches me whats in the book its soo boring and im getting so pissed off that im thinking of ditching piano lessons and going back to guitar lessons i only did guitar lessons inside of school so i never had to buy any practice and theory books and im planning on doing it outside shortly. i've played guitar for 3 years now, did lessons starting in year 7 and through yr 8 and as well. couldnt do it in year 9 cuz i had this other program in school and it ruined my guitar lesson schedule. i picked lessons back up in term 4 this year (im in year 10 currently and have been playing gutiar for almost 4 years). so im pretty skilled when it comes to guitar.
what i wanted to ask was:
what did you think of piano lessons when you first started off?
the book im using is adult book lv 1 and the songs in it are pissing me off to the limit
jingle bells, Mary had a little lamb, sleepy john or some shit. its sooo boring...................
oh also how does your teacher teach you?
like for example
when i did guitar lessons
on my first lesson, my teacher got to know my likes about guitar and ask me what genre i liked
i said pop/rock/ heavy metal and thats what he taught me after teaching me the basic chords of guitar. As time progressed, my teacher kept making my lessons more fun by telling me to create random solos for a track and teaching me scales and penatonic scales and thats what i call fun!
i learnt quickly cuz i was having fun and enthusiastic but with piano, im soo bored i dont even want to practise the songs in the book, i just download music sheets and try and play them i do practise, and i do wanna learn piano, but i just cant stand the book. the teacher is nice but she can tell by my unmotivated face and reaction to whatever shes trying to teach me. everytime she tells me to play the dam song in the book, i feel like punching the piano (which i wont, mum paid a lot for it)
mum isnt soo happy about me wanting to quit after she spent $4000 on a piano just for me, but that was wayyy before i knew piano lessons was going to be boring.....and the dam theory shit
but then again guitar and piano are completely different
i just wanna get someone else's point of view
i know that im complaining wayy too much about theory work and just wanting to play but is piano always boring at the start and gets more fun when you become more skilled?? i wish mum let me learn piano at a young age cuz thats the kind of songs kids would like.
oh, i would do both guitar and piano but i dont think i will have the time because of vce next year in yr 11 and also because im paying for the lessons myself
thank you all for replying to this question.
i did find piano harder than i thought and thats good, cuz i like challenges, maybe its my teacher for just teaching me the book and not asking for my interest. my guitar lesson is completely different from my piano lesson mainly because i did guitar lessons only in school. but i really enjoyed my guitar lesson. but then again i did do more playing than theory which i enjoyed alot but my teacher always gave my advice bout better ways to bend, hammer the strings and tap the strings.
i guess i could take your advice and continue my piano lessons but i dont wanna waste money. the theory book makes me wanna burn it and yell at my piano teacher saying THIS IS BORING THE SHIT OUT OF ME! but i wont do that, cuz thats very rude.....because i am thaaaaat bored of piano for the moment im scared that i'll learn very slowly and just end wasting money.
as someone once told me "if you dont enjoy what your doing, you wont progress very far and you wo
A. You're bored because playing the piano is harder than you thought it was. You want to play popular songs that you like, even though you might not have the skill yet to do so. The songs you are learning now are chosen to teach particular aspects of playing. When I took guitar lessons I had to play "boring" songs too because I needed to learn notes on a particular string, or learn how to play chords on different fret positions. Did your "fun" teacher ever teach you to read music? Guitar music isn't just chord charts you know.
In between lessons, as a break from regular practice, play something on the piano just for fun. There are musician "fake books" where a simplified melody is played with the right hand, while the left plays the basic chords, with a lot of improvisation or "faking" by the pianist depending on how "inspired" they get. Then go back to the other stuff.
I'm more of a singer, but my high school choir teacher taught us basic music theory which I would learn for the tests then promptly forget. Later on, I actually had to pay someone to teach me what I had ignored but discovered I needed to know in order to learn some very difficult music and to keep up with better trained musicians in the groups I was singing in.
If you learn that "boring stuff" you will also pick up enough basics to be able to write down your own music if you ever decide to give THAT a try.
Hang in there. Teachers do have different styles of teaching. Maybe if you just can't stand it after another year, don't quit piano lessons, but see if your mom can find another teacher. But give it some reasonable time!
