Q. I don't have money for lessons but i would love to learn how to play the piano. Is there a good book or computer program that is effective or that you would recommend?
Also i have a large keyboard and not an actual piano, does that make much of a difference?
Is it too late for me to start learning now? I am 19 and have been told by some people that it is too late to start now. Any advice or opinions would be appreciated thank you!
A. It's never too late to learn! I have a keyboard too and I taught myself how to play, well partly play...I can't use my left hand just yet, but I'm getting there! There are a lot of sites that can help you learn keyboard/piano. You can Google it and there are even lots of Youtube videos also. The site I use most often is 8notes.com. It offers everything from online metronome, free sheet music for all instruments, and even training for scales, piano notes, and chords. It's a very helpful site and I highly recommend it! Well, I hope this helped you some and good luck! =)
How do you play piano by ear?
Q. Okay so I'm a beginner at piano. I'm taking lessons. And I see all these people on YouTube that are playing great and they all say they play by ear. I can find the melody to songs pretty well but I don't know what chords to use or how to find the chords. Does anyone know how to play by ear? If so how do you know what chords to play for that song? I've asked my piano teacher and apparently she's not the type that plays by ear.
A. There's a science to playing by ear and knowing how to get around; it's not some magical thing. It starts by learning chords and progresses on from there. Chord-wise, it's a lot like learning how to play the guitar.
The blog "Everything You Need To Know To Play By Ear" is good for what what you want to know. You can also download a free book "The Play By Ear Discovery" at http://keyeduppiano.blogspot.com/p/free-book.html.
I need help learning how to play a song on the piano using cords from guitar tabs?
Q. Does anyone here know how to do this?
I've taken years of classic piano lessons, and I know all the chords. I can always pick out the melody but its the chords i need help with. So thats were the tabs come in. I can transpose them fine but i can't figure out how to play it and make it sound good.
Anybody have any advice or sights or ANYTHING that might help? Id really appreciate it! :)
A. Check out the book "How to Play from a Fake Book without Gettin' the Blues" over at http://www.patternpiano.com/
It covers how to voice chords so that they sound nice.
There are some free sample chapters you can check out.
If you want something free, check out http://www.list-of-chords.com/ -- but if you already know the chords, you might want to check out the book I suggested.
