Q. The chords on a keyboard or piano. Which ones should I know by heart?
A. To be perfectly honest if you are playing in a church setting and want to play the keyboard or piano, you should be proficient in playing mostly all the chords. In gospel music, chord voicing is a very important part of the genre. Being able to play in all the Major keys would be very beneficial to your development. My hope is that you have a teacher or someone who is willing to show you the essentials of piano playing in gospel music. It really is a great genre to learn, but without knowing chords and chord structures you would have a really hard time playing along with somebody.
I hope this helps!

Should I learn to play the piano or guitar as my first instrument?
Q. 20 years old and I want to learn an instrument. I will have to teach myself either instrument, so essentially which instrument would be easier to learn by myself? I would be using a keyboard piano if it's piano, and for guitar, probably an acoustic, since it'll probably be cheaper.
A. Actually the piano will be much easier. It is laid out in a way that it isn't too hard to change from chord to chord while on the guitar, you may find it hard to go from C to G to bar chords to other chords and back to C and then to F and so on. Learning chords on the piano is quicker and once you learn how to use both hands separately(no chords, just melody line and bass line) then you will be able to play most instruments including the guitar. Your fingers will take quicker to adapt to the piano and coordination than they would on a guitar, making other instruments easier to learn.
