Q. Hi, everyone. I'm quite lame and I can't play any songs on piano by ear. I need some program that could process voice records into tones or chords, in order for me to create music sheets from those melodies inside my head. I would be really really pleased if anyone could help. Thanks for any given answers. :)
A. What you are looking for would be an application that converts an audio file of a monophonic melody into midi data.
Try these
Melodyne (free trial) http://www.celemony.com/cms/index.php?id=demos
WIDI Audio to MIDI VST plugin (free trial) http://widisoft.com/english/widi-audio-to-midi-vst.html

Apparently Logic 8 has this function
Try googling "audio to midi"

Best digital music composition software for beginner without a midi keyboard?
Q. Hi! I'd like to start writing music, but every music composition software I've found either focuses on music recording rather than digital composing or requires an incredible amount of learning both to use the software and to know what all these knobs and switches do on virtual machinery. A lot of them have a really poor interface unless you input notes with a MIDI keyboard, which I don't have. Is there something out there that's easy to learn and allows you to write music just by dropping notes and durations down? If it could output sound fonts or something other than pure midi, that would be awesome too.
A. I use FL Studio Producer Edition. It's not too hard to learn but has advanced features. You can use VST plugins and samples to get any sound you want, it's great for electronic music. You don't need a MIDI controller, but you can do everything with your computer mouse and keyboard. It has a pattern editor for simple melodies and beats, and you can turn channels into piano rolls so you can also create complex melodies, chords, rhythms etc. You can try the free demo at flstudio.com or buy it with 10% discount with the promo link for new users https://support.image-line.com/jshop/shop.php?offer=Default&promo=BACJBAA468
How do I become a composer?
Q. I have finally decided that for a career I want to pursue my passion, which is making music.
I've been playing piano for 11 years and I know basic music theory.
However I have some large gaps...
1. I don't know how to physically write music. I have an idea, but i really don't know how. I have so many beautiful songs that i hear in my head that I want to output but i can't because I don't know how to actually write it down.. so i try on the piano, but that limits me.
2. I don't know complex music theory. I don't know about all the possible chords that can be played and so forth.
3. I only play piano
4. I don't own any equipment for recording... what type of musical equipment/computer softwares do Composers use?
Thankyou for your help
P.S. I want to become a jingle and film composer.
A. You can do this by use of a DAW. A good, very user friendly DAW is Fruity Loops (and or FL Studio). In fruity loops, it gives you a screen with a piano roll on the left side where you can click notes onto the screen with whatever lengths and rythms you want! Also, you at be able to plug in your piano to your pc and record your piano as a midi track. With a midi track, you can move the notes you recorded to wherever you want them or add more or change the sound! Fruity loops is about $70 dollars I think, but it can also be obtained in a not so legal fashion using torrents. Or you could look for a free DAW. Also, you will need to buy at least one VST plugin. If you buy Miroslav Philharmonic, you get all the instruments you need to make classical compositions (violins, pianos, trumpets, cellos, ect). GOOD LUCK!
