Q. I am beginning to learn theory in jazz by taking piano lessons, but right now I really need a cheat sheet or a guide to different chords for the trumpet. I have quite a few to improvise under here so instead of typing them all in it would be great if someone knew of a website I could find the scales that match these chords. i have looked around google but trying to weed out all the guitar tab and chord websites it incredibly hard. Can anyone help me out?
PS
In case someone is generous enough to actually give me the scales for the chords ill write them here anyway.
-Emi7
-A7
-Bmi7
-C#mi7 (flat 5th)
-C7
-Emi
-C9
I am pretty sure this isn't a blues chart so I cant really use B flat blues for the whole solo but is there a scale i could use over this whole thing?
Any help appreciated.
A. I really don't see why you need a cheat sheet. Those chord symbols tell you everything you need to know. They represent the notes used in the given chord. Em7, for example, uses the notes E G B and D.
Chords are built with a root, a 3rd, and a 5th. If there are notes beyond that, you'll see things like 7 or 9.
Sheet Music with LETTERS instead of Musical Notes?!?
Q. Help is greatly appreciated! I want to be able to play the piano, but my piano is labeled A-G.
Ex:
Happy birthday is
CCDCFE
CCDCGF
Etc, etc.
A. You're really not going to find ANY sheet music like that... If you know chords (which it looks like you don't), then you could cheat your way with guitar tabs... Otherwise, it's time to learn your FACE and every good boy deserves fudge technique
Where can I get sheet music for a stage band type of group of the EXACT notes for Pop, Funk or Top 40 music?
Q. I have a small combo/jazz band/stage band (whatever you want to call it) with vocalists and I don't want to perform JUST jazz or big band stuff or (often sub-par) arrangements of pop/funk music (often times without a vocal line).
I DON'T want songbooks, fake books, real books, cheat sheets, etc (music with only vocal lines, piano music and guitar chords/charts). I'm looking for the EXACT music. You know how concert bands have a score with parts? I'm looking for that. I'd use songbooks if the folks in the ensemble were seasoned enough to read it.
I am mainly looking for funk/pop/top 40 kind of tunes. Every group that I talk to that puts on this sort of performance tell me that someone either arranges it for them or they kind of "figure it out" from the songbooks or recording itself. I myself arrange some songs but I REALLY wouldn't mind spending money to get it instead.
If I really want to perform this kind of stuff, am I doomed to arrange it myself forever? I might as well get it published so others can perform it as well right? Does anyone else do this?
Tried sheetmusicplus. They only have songbooks. I've also tried J.W.Pepper. Songbooks only as well.
I should have mentioned, this is a high school band. I'm their teacher.
A. AFAIK, studio musicians or band members who play on pop, funk or Top 40 recordings are usually given lead sheets or charts of the songs, and create their own instrumental parts in the studio by ear. If a producer writes out a part for a musician to play its just for the purposes of the recording session.
I don't think I've ever seen full scores with parts written out for every band member, for pop, funk or Top 40 songs. If you feel the need to tell your band members how to play their parts note-for-note, I thnk you'll either have to continue writing out their parts for them or hire someone else to do it for you.
If the people in your ensemble aren't good enough musicians to learn their own individual parts by ear off of recordings or from songbooks, why are they in your band?
