Q. I don't think i have my finger placements right.
C major for example, i use fingers 1, 2 ,4
Should I start using 1, 3, 5?
-thanksksk
A. Finger placement is dependent on where your fingers are going to next.
For instance, if your C E G is going to move to an inverted G chord (B D G), you might want to use your 4, 2, 1 on the C chord so that the B and the D fall right below your 5 and 3 fingers for the next G chord.
However, if you're C is moving up to and inversion of an F chord (C F A) you might want to finger the C chord with 5 3 1 and on the F move the thumb (1) up to the A and strike the F with the index (2) finger.
... it all depends on what the music is doing.
Piano Beginner question?
Q. I'm learning Piano by myself. I know some chords but am now focusing on reading music, starting with the treble clef. How does one know where to put their first finger for each song. For example, on this website it lists Ode to Joy, yet both versions have a different starting finger? I know the letters of the treble clef but I'm a little lost on this.
A. When I first started piano lessons I thought that there were specific fingers that had to be used because of the finger numbering above notes in the music. My teacher stated that the finger notations were suggestions and not "set in stone" rules. If there is a scale passage, it helps to have a particular finger on the beginning note of the passage. If you were taking lessons, you would memorize scales so when scale passages appear in a composition you will know instinctively where to place your fingers. For other finger placement, it will depend somewhat on the span of your hand as to which finger to use as well as what note or notes comes after that particular note.
Where can I find a piano website that shows me chords and correct finger placement for each?
Q. I have a book called Alfreds Basic Piano Method level 1.. and I have lost patience at page 51. I find it boring. I want to enjoy learning to play the piano. Alfred book seems rather slow if you get what I mean.
I just find it boring.. I want to learn faster and I recently had a lesson with a piano teacher.. just 1 free lesson to see if I would continue and I realised that learning scale by scale would be more enjoyable for me.
I left there knowing how to play every chord in the C major scale and I feel if I just use this method along with my music making I will learn piano much more quicker and won't become bored.
I've found websites which show the chords etc but they don't have any info about finger placement and I want to make sure I get this right from the start so it's important I know where to correctly place my fingers when playing the piano. e.g. what finger on what note when playing a specific chord.
Help is appreciated
