piano chords?

Q. 1.OK How do you know how to make the melody in a song chords like if you are playing note E then do you play the whole E major chord to make it a chord?

2.And how do you know what chord to play when you are playing a melody or intervals or watever?

thanks for your help plz answers soon bye now chow tootalup hehehe

A. You can play anything you want. Typically when you write a melody it follows either a major or minor scale. So use chords that fit the intervals. If you want to work backwards and work with chords first then you think of chords as degrees of scale.

For example in the C major scale C-D-E-F-G-A-B-C, the first chord, C is major, D is minor, E is minor, F major, G major, A is minor, B is really the seventh of a G chord and back to C major. This works for all keys.

Your melody can follow the scale or it can be part of a chord. For example, in the key of C, if you play an E note you can play either a C chord, A minor, E minor, they all contain the E note.

Have fun

Original Question

what are some good r&b chords for piano?
Q. i need some chords,i wanna write a song, and i need to know more chords,
left and right hand.

A. My guess is that you're not quite ready for songwriting yet. You're on the right track though so this site should help you out.

http://www.8notes.com/piano_chord_chart/

I cannot stress enough the value of knowing ALL the chords so be patient with yourself and just keep at it.

BTW, chords have no relation to genre. The same chords used in a country song can be used in rock or even jazz. Simply put, chords are chords no matter what the genre.

Now go for it!

Kabum (and yes, there will be a quiz!)

Help with chord progression & music theory?
Q. On piano, C, Am, F, G, then A, E, D, B. How can I make it sound better? I want to keep the first part, and I kinda want the second part to sound similar to the way it is now, but it sounds off. How do I make it better? Can I? Thanks.

A. The first section of the chord progression (C, Am, F and G) all belong to the key of C major (white keys only) which is why they work well together. The second section of the chord progression belongs to several contrasting keys.

http://www.ezfolk.com/uke/Tutorials/1four5/music-theory/key-chord-chart/key-chord-chart.html
This website will tell you all the chords that belong to each key, which will help you work out which chords work well together. if you are writing in C major than only these chords will work togehter: Am, C, Dm, Em, G, F. try rewriting the second part of the chord progression using only these chords.

Also if you want the chord progression to sound more unique and interesting try manipulate the chords slightly, remember that C major is only white notes, so as long as you don't press a black key you won't go out of key. Put your normal triad chord on (a chord with three notes) and then try pressing another white note to make a four note chord, see how much thicker it makes the chord sound and how much more interesting it is, remember music is an art as long as you thnk it sounds good to you then it is right, go crazy, why stop at four note chords, why not five or six notes.
