How do you properly teach yourself how to play the piano?

Q. Hello everyone. I am teaching myself how to play the keyboard/Piano from youtube videos. I am a beginner and there are a lot of videos online that are helpful but I wanted to know what should I learn first. I know that before anything I need to know the name of the keys and scales but then what is next? And another question is, once I learn a scale, should I learn the chords in the scale and then the other scales or learn all of the scales first and then the chords?

A. I agree with the other answers, you have to spend some money if your going to succeed. If you prefer video then buy a piano course there are some excellent piano courses on DVD or available to download, they are not expensive and they have a set program for you to follow.

Original Question

Easy way to learn to play the piano for absolute beginners?
Q. I want to learn how to play the office theme, yet I know nothing about the piano. I can read music pretty well (I play Trumpet in 7th-8th grade band) Is there a site or video on Youtube that can teach me super slow and easy. I have tried some videos but I cannot tell because I have no clue where the keys are. Please help>

A. I think thereâs two options for you:

- Learn the chords for piano. Hereâs a good web sites for that: http://www.looknohands.com/chordhouse/piano/
http://www.8notes.com/piano_chord_chart/

- The other way itâs to use the MIDIs. MIDI itâs like a digital score. Hereâs the steps for that:
1- Search the WEB for the song you like to learn in http://www.midisite.co.uk/
2- Open the file in this software: âSweet Sixteen MIDI Sequencer 3.3.2â that you can download free in http://www.ronimusic.com/download.htm#DL_SWEET_16
3- After that, go to the âGridâ section and youâll see all the notes you need to play for that song displayed in a keyboard inside of the software. All you have to do its repeat the notes displayed.

I learn to play piano like this on my on. You should try it.

Original Question

Is there a computer software I could go buy that makes making beats very simple?
Q. I dont mind going to a store to purchase some software as long as its less that 20 dollars. I need something simple. I don't want to have to play a piano to make some beats, because god knows that I dont know how. I dont want to download anything from the web either. I want it to be out the store and agiain very very simple and easy to use, but yet makes good beats!

A. First: Judging by your statement I am going to assume you do not know much music theory. I am going suggest learn some music theory and notes cause those are basic for knowing how to make chord structures. best way to do that is find some free web sites where you can learn music theory for free. I don't have any off hand but if you ask on answers for the site you should find an answer then.

Second: The best out there right now is a program called Fruity Loops. It costs for the program but it is worth it with all the extensions you can download for it.

One thing you have to learn about computer programs. If you want good results then do not be cheap about it. Best said on Hustle and flow. he had to get the 200 dollar mic because the cheapo mic wasn't built structurally to handle the p's and b's.

The music theory will help out way more than any program. Music Theory is like the hand book of music. You have how the piano is structures and where to make chords and how to make them sound the way you want them to sound.
