A. Heeeey i'm a begginer aswell in keyboard. I think the easiest are: twinkle twinkle little star, jingle bells, mary had a little lamb, happy birthday & away in a manger :D I'm not sure wether you can play all of them on the guitar but im sure you can!
There are a couple of ways to go about doing this. I would recommend getting music books to start with. You can look for music books that say on the front piano/guitar/vocal or you can get books that are for one specific instrument and have the other person play the melody line for the vocal. You can get books for guitar and have the guitar play the chords and have the piano play notes from the chords - arpeggiation or even learn how to play chord melody.
Make sure you pick music you like. If you have a hard time picking music you both like then compromise by playing one song one person likes and then switch. It is not necessary to pick music from bands that have both guitar and keyboard as you will often find books that provide music for all instruments. If you are looking for free music try Guitar Noise or look up the term "chord melody" to see what is available.
Make sure you give each other the patience when playing together as you might not gel immediately. Also make sure you practice and most of the time use a metronome when practicing alone so you are able to keep time. It can be very frustrating to play with others when somebody is not in time with the others. You might even want to practice with a metronome when playing together. The keyboard should have this availalbe.

Q. Hi all, Now I need YOUR help. I just got a Casio CTK-533 for free! New, except it has no book. I figured out most of it, problem being I have no clue how to play the piano/keyboard but have always wanted to learn. I know the designated keys A-G then A-G again. What is the best way to learn this? it shows you where to put your fingers, and it has 100 programmed songs when playing but besides the obvious get a how to play book, does any one have any suggestions? It has a "fingered" buttom but I was hoping the keys lit up lol they don't. I am not looking for an easy way to learn I know this is going to take a lot of time, but hoping someone can give me a push in the right direction as this is one nice instrument. Thanks in advance for help.
A. There are two ways to approach a musical instrument. You can learn songs by ear or through sheet music. The latter is by far easier, and you can approach more difficult and entertaining songs more quickly, but ear training pays off in the long run. It's also a skill many pianists/keyboardists lack (in relation to, for example, guitarists) and will help you stand out.
To learn a song by ear, find some simple, slow paced song that you've got on a MP3 somewhere, preferably without chords*. You can try classics, like happy birthday, twinkle twinkle little star, or like my friend did: the super mario and mortal combat themes. Figure out the song just by guessing what notes are being played, playing them, and seeing if it sounds right. Eventually, what's called your ability to hear "relative pitch" will improve, and you'll be more accurate in your guesses. I have friends who can hear a tune and play it back instantly, keep at it and you'll get much better.
On the other hand, you can start by going to your local music store and purchasing sheet music. You'll have to learn to read it first, and for that I recommend either purchasing a music theory notebook along with it, or this website: http://www.musictheory.net/ Learning theory will help you in both your ear training and sight reading**, so don't neglect it.
Don't fall into the trap of focusing on one and neglecting the other. One day, if all you've done is play by ear, you'll wish you could sight read music, or if you can't tell a tune for your life, you'll wish you could when there's that one song you can't find music for.
* when you play 2+ notes at the same time. It's much harder to figure out what chord is being played by ear.
** the ability to read music notation and playing it back without having practiced it before.
p.s. above answer is bunk. i know many very skilled players who have not taken lessons. if you're very very serious about learning though, lessons do help. on the other hand, it can take the fun out of playing. it's up to you.

A. Hi,
It's not difficult. I am just making an assumption that your finger dexterity is ok and that you are not tone deaf. Can you sing with correct pitch? Does your friends ever comment that you sing ok or off pitch. If you are sing ok, then you are a good candidate to Play By Ear.
For a start, if you can work out melodies by ear, then it would be great. If not, let me know and I will see how to guide you through. And if you can do that, putting harmony into the song is just a snap. All you need is for someone to hand you the keys to unlock the "door". I hope I can be that one. OK. See if you can digest the below:
As for good place to start, Can you play C, F and G7 chords besides playing melodies in C key? Next, feel each chord and notice each have different character which you need to recognize - much like how you recognize faces (by eyes); only this time, your ear must do the detecting.
If you pay attention enough, you will notice that Chord IV(F) is getting stronger compared to Chord I(C). Chord V7(G7( gives you the "unfinished" and also seems to be "getting smaller, softer, weaker, going in" feeling; and Chord I(C) gives you the "Settled, Finished" feeling. Test it out and see. Using these feelings, you can practically listen to a song and knows what goes where without even writing in down or testing it out. You just know! Just like recognizing faces, you just have to try it out often in many songs.
Now try it for simple folk songs, especially Happy Birthday.(the world's most common song)
Just a warning: It may come to you immediately or sometimes, nothing at all. For a while, it might seem like it is not coming to you or you are not getting it. Just persist. Suddenly, like a bell hammer, it will "slam" on you and you will be suddenly enlightened!
There are more but I will have to leave you to test this principle out first before you try out the rest.
