Q. Which keys to I press for these? For example: Gm7 is G A# D and G
b5
Ddim
F6
Thank you :3 oh and please use the # and not that other symbol. It's the only thing I learned about the black keys.
A. For Gm7, you need to add the F note.
b5 means the 5th note of the scale is played flat.
Ddim is D, F, and G#.
F6 adds the 6th note of the scale, which for F would be D.
How do I make minor chords sound beautiful?
Q. I am listening to minor chord progressions and stuff, and the composers I am listening to make the minor chords into really beautiful songs. When I play minor chords, they just sound really sad/mean, and not beautiful or deep. What are some beautiful chord progressions I can do with minor chords? I'm sort of new to piano playing. Thanks!
A. well, as a general rule songs in minor sound sad (most of the time) so these songs are probably "special cases"
good chords in minor (Am)
Am, C, G, D, Dm, Dsus2, Dm9, Cmaj9, Bm11, Bmaj7#11, F6, C7, Asus2, C/G.
Piano voicing?
Q. Need to spice things up but have no idea any good voicings:
F7
F7/A
Bb
Gm7/C
F
F7
E7
Eb7
D7
G9
C9
F7
F7/A
Bb7
A7
Bb
E7
Am7(b5)
G7
Gm7/C
F
A. Switch between the majors and minors. A natural progression from F7 to Bb can be Eb instead of E7.
Add some 6ths in there. F6 is FACD. This is a voicing of Dm. Right? Use 6ths as a transition: C6 to Dm. g6 to Em.
If you play 9ths, leave the tonic off to discover new chords.
Augment the 5ths on your chords when play transitions: C >> C aug >> F >> Fm >> Ab.
Learn you circle of 5ths. This is a must have theory.
Also, learn your basic jazz & blues progressions.
Try playing in a different keys: Ab, Db, C7, Fm7, Bb, Eb, Gm7.
Arpeggiate.
Learn a few standards and write your own variations.
