Q. I want to learn how to play jazz piano chords?
A. If you know how to play piano chords well, jazz chords are an easy transition. Jazz chords are basic chord structures that have slight changes to alter the sound. For example, take a C7 Major chord. Now instead of playing a B, play a Bb. You're now playing a regular C7...a dominant chord that's very common in jazz. Other common changes are C9 or a D on top....C,b5 or playing a Gb instead of G...the list goes on. There are many books to help you with this process. Go to the local music shop or look online. My favorite site for this is wwbw.com.
If guitars have guitar tabs for beginners, how 'bout piano?
Q. I really dont have time to take piano lessons..Too much classes too much work
A. So you're looking for the piano equivanlent of guitar tabs? Probably the closest thing is lead sheets, and you'll find them in fake books. Fake books usually have the melody with chord letters written above (like C, G, Am etc.)
But reading lead sheets is probably not as easy as reading guitar tabs. You still have to be able to read sheet music at least a little, plus you need to know some basic chord theory. You can learn some of this from free online sources, such as:
http://www.sightreadingpractice.com
http://www.gootar.com/piano/
http://www.shanemcdonald.org/music/piano-chord-shapes.html
Starting with lead sheets right away is probably not a good idea and you may get discouraged. It's better to start with a beginning piano lesson book, which you can find at a music store or buy online. Alfred and Piano Adventures are good publishers (if you're not a kid, try Alfred's Basic Adult Piano Course).
For most people, taking piano lessons actually SAVES time and effort. Teaching yourself is generally slower and involves more trial and error. Many teachers are willing to taylor the lessons to fit your needs and goals. A flexible piano teacher won't make you slave over Chopin etudes if you just want to learn easy pop tunes.
Still don't want to learn to read music or take lessons? Well, you can just try to pick out songs by ear. If you have a good ear for music, you may be able to learn well this way. Or you can search YouTube for piano tutorials where the person shows you which keys to press to play a particular song.
Is there anywhere online where I can get piano...?
Q. I need two things.
I need some sort of chart or diagram telling me what keys on a typical piano are what notes.
I need a full list of what notes are which. In other words, if I'm given a piece of music, I don't know which ones are B's, A's, G's, ect. This way I can write the letter above the note and hopefully match it with the keys.
If you're wondering, I am taking a piano class in school because there is no other elective that period. I have no experience playing the piano (so sorry if I sound dumb here) and even though that class is for beginners, the teacher is no help, he doesn't even explain anything, and we just sit there with our music and pretend to play something. All I know basically is where to put my hands/fingers from reading the book I have. And I missed the first few days of the class. I used to play the flute 4 years ago and I know that writing letters above the notes is a bad habit but I'm not trying to learn to play seriously, just for this class. If anyone knows where I could find these things it would really help me out, I need somewhere to start here instead of starring at the paper because the teacher's not in the room!
A. Here is the site for the requested diagram of piano...
