How do I play piano with a chord chart?

Q. I know how to read chords and form them. That's basic music theory. But some songs I have don't have notes, they just have the names of chords. I could just play each supposed chord one after another, but that doesn't really sound good. I'm sure there's a little improvisation needed. How should these songs sound and how do I play them with just the names of the chords?
Thanks a lot!
P.S. I tried looking up videos and articles for this, but all I could find where tutorials on how to read and build a chord--something I already know.

A. You must learn the rules of voice leading. Truly understanding this well enough to do in real time is the subject of your first year of harmony at a four-year university. As a shortcut, start by trying to preserve common tones when moving from one chord to the next; if a note changes, move it as little as possible.

For example when playing G7 to C you might voice as follows
F E
D C
G G
B C

I must stress that this is only ONE extremely simplistic example and there are a LOT of things to understand in order to play chord progressions with proper voice leading.

Original Question

piano chords for begginer?
Q. ok so i just got this new portable keyboard and i want to learn how to play it.
It came with books.
But i want to play some good music.
Not the classical stuff that it has.

Does any one know of a good song(not classical) that a begginer could play on a keyboard????

And where can i find the notes to that song?

A. First you need to know the notes that include every basic chord. In this web sites are all the chords. Start with learning all the major and minor chords.

http://www.8notes.com/piano_chord_chart/

Choose any song you want to learn (Coldplay âClocks, or any other band you like) and search for the chords of the song in the web. The list of chords will appear in the lyrics and you need to play all the notes for every chord.
For example, this song âColdplay âClocksâ got three basic chords: Eb, Bbm, Fm
That means that you need to play the following notes:

Eb (E bemol) = Eb Bb G
Bbm (B bemol minor) = C# Bb F
Fm (F minor) = C Ab F

All in successionâ¦.

If you donât know what are the letters I mention, learn it. Every note (key of the piano) got a name that you need to learn. Go to the link I give you and see it.

Original Question

How to do advance piano chords?
Q. I already know how to make major and minor chords and inversions. But the others chords I still don't know how to do them. How do you do an AM9 or B7sus or A9. I'm trying to find a tutorial on the net but all I can find is tutorial on the major and minor chords.
I would like to know how to come up with those chords so I don't need to memorize them. The 135 keys is a good example but I don't know how to apply them in chords like AM9. I just know how to apply them in major and minor chords and inversions.

A. So instead of me taking the time to explain the theory of chords here's a good website to show you the notes and such:

Also, another good idea is to search for piano chord charts. They can be helpful. Being a jazz musician it's important to memorize how chords can be inverted, and how simple finger changing can lead to new different chords. Good luck my friend. If you have anymore questions feel free to ask.
