Q. I'm looking for songs to learn on piano to accompany myself singing. I already know a few ("Boston" by Augustana, "Speechless" by Lady GaGa, and a couple others), but I'd like to expand what I know.
Suggestions are welcome but please try to include a link to chords, a YouTube tutorial, sheet music, or something like that. Thank you!
A. If you want something for an audition piece then I recomend dream a little dream of me. It's a quality audition piece to have, especially as a back up because it's so flexible you can take in to consideration they said about you first piece and change it. (I know you didn't ask about auditions)
It is also really good that's it's flexible in talent as well you can sing it plainly or you can get creative and make it really bluesy and Jazzy and get some good vocal expression in there.
here's the sheet music

here's the youtube tutorial

and here's the most popular version along with lyrics just incase you don't know the song, although I am sure you'll at least recognise it

If you want something to perform or just to have fun with then I would say sweet child of mine, the guns and roses version, everyone knows the song and most people love it
sheet music here

finally if you want a real challenge singing wise then I would say sweetest dream areo smith there's so many different versions on the paino from really simple to it's just the basic tune to the complicated full version but the singing side of it is hard to master but can be done by anyone with a good range
Can I become a good guitar and piano player if I start learning now?
Q. I'm nineteen years old. I've always wanted to learn how to play an instrument. I've enrolled myself in both piano and guitar lessons for adult beginners. Can I really learn how to be a good guitarist and pianist if I'm no longer a kid? What do I have to do? How long will it take? I want to be able to one day play by ear, like some musicians but I don't know if I'm dreaming too big.
A. Hi! I can't speak for guitar, but there is no question about it - you can learn piano (and quickly) at pretty much any age. This has been proven time and time again. I also read a college professor's study (but back from 1993) that concluded that it is easier to learn piano than guitar, but I personally think it depends on the individual and if they have a personal preference to one or the other. The key to it all is to make sure you continue to learn and follow through to the end, even if you temporarily get frustrated when starting out. Many courses also try to make learning piano fun by early on showing the student how they can use simple chords to play popular songs that they know, which I must admit is a good feeling to play something, even just simple chords, that sound like a popular song. So push forward with what you are already doing. Oh, as far as how long it may take? Again, everyone is different, and it depends on the teaching methods being applied and what your ultimate goals are. I would say, and this is a big guess, that if you apply yourself hard that you should be happily playing the piano after a solid year to the level you are seeking. You can actually keep training/learning forever, but dedicating yourself to it over the course of a year is your first step. Reevaluate then. Sure, you will be playing songs within weeks, and harder ones within months, but give it some time before you really judge yourself on how things are coming along to meet your ultimate goals. Best of luck, and have fun with it.

How do you start a metal band at 16?
Q. I read a lot of todays metalcore bands were started by 16 year old high schoolers like Bring Me The Horizon, August Burns Red, and many more. I play guitar and am that age, and am really into this style, it's my dream. I could join a band deffinetly. But only a few people I know actually like this heavy music, even fewer are musicians. What can you suggest?
A. First of all, make a band. Find some people who would do things like playing bass, drums, vocals...etc. preferably friends because they're more likely to stick with you until the end. (I know that sounds cheesy...)
If you're going to be in a serious band where you write your own songs and such, make sure you have good knowledge of music. You can't just be a tab player (by tab player, I mean a person who just plays from tabs off the internet), you have to know about keys, chords, reading music, and some musical terms. If you don't know what a major scale, forte, crescendo, or piano (no, not the instrument) then I suggest you learn a whole bunch about music right away if you're planning on forming a serious band.
By serious band I mean like writing your own songs and trying to get famous. You could be making a just-for-fun band where you learn to play songs written by other people, then you don't have to have to much knowledge of music.
When you have your musical knowledge, and your band members (who should also know a little bit about music) you have to get yourself known. At our high school, we have Battle of The Bands every once and a while. You participate in those, and if you do really well, you could get fans. Even if you only have like three fans, it's still good. Fans are good. You have to keep your eyes open for little battle of the bands and rock fest type things.
Once you're a little bit known, you can go searching for other places to preform, like in neighbouring towns (or different parts of the city if you live in a city). You have to try to get to know people that have to do with those things. Talk to your friends and family. Your friend's friend's uncle could own the Something-or-other stage in Happyville. And you have to make sure you get a good reputation with these people, so always be polite and don't swear or anything and thank them greatly for letting you preform there.
I know learning all the Italian musical terms might sound dumb, but any good musician (even heavy metal) needs to know something about music. A good musician needs to know how to appreciate (not 'LIKE") other types of music and understand how they make sense. I know this because I play flute and I play classical music and such, but I also like heavy metal, I like Cannibal Corpse, Children of Bodom, Carcass, and Sepultura the best. XD
I'm 16 as well, and I don't think you need to start a band right now because you have a lot of time, but starting to learn whatever you need to learn is definitely good to do right now.
I hope this helps you. Good luck on achieving your dream.
EDIT: I thought of something else, when you get really good you can post videos of your band on youtube. That's a good way to get known and to find more fans.
