I need a bit of help with guitar and piano. Please READ! (Scales, chords)?

Q. 1.) My band is working on a new song, and every note but F is natural. F is sharpened in G Major, but what about E Minor? A friend asked what the key was, and I said G Major. He had me play my part and now he insists it's E Minor. Aren't they the same (Consider A Minor and C Major the same for this question, for example)?
2.) What notes are in the G6 chord on piano? Em7?
3.) Is the G6 chord the same as the Em7 chord on the guitar? If not, please lay them out seperately so I can see the difference.

A. 1 Yes the notes are the same, but if the song is based on the minor chord you can say it's in that minor key. You're both right. 2 G B D E then E G B D 3 play a G but leave your high E string open, play Em but either fret your B string on the 3rd fret or play your D string open
