Q. Ive been playing piano for 2 years but never knew the chords . ive learn by watching videos and look at there fingers and where it goes. but im 14 and i wana be a pro when i grow up and i also rap
A. My niece is an accomplished pianist and my mother was a music/piano teacher. It takes years to be at a level to be considered good enough to be pro and according to my mother daily practice is required to stay on top of it. An example would be Freddie Mercury. He had more than his level 9 in piano training. To make dreams come true there needs to be a true and deep passion to keep your motivation going.
How to be the star of the show if you only sing a song?!?!?!?!?
Q. I want to play snow white for the granny awards but all she does it sing a song and get an award. My music teacher/director says there are no small parts so how do I make my part the best
A. 1 Always warm up before you start. One way to do this is to hum along with a piano or keyboard. Start low, and slowly go higher in pitch. If possible, get a vocal trainer or a professional to teach you different ways in which you can warm your voice up.
2 Stay healthy! A healthy body and lungs supports a healthy voice. Exercising will greatly improve your endurance (how long you can sing without breathing).
3 Learn your range. See how high and low you can go without cracking. If you can sign up for choir, they will probably tell you a general range. You can start covering songs by people with that range, as well.
4 Stand up! This is one of the most important things you can do. Singing while slouching in a chair will put extra strain on your vocal chords because you force yourself to breathe from your lungs rather than your diaphragm. Worse, you will get adapted singing while slouched, and that's a hard habit to break.
5 Always connect with the lyrics, feel them and believe them and the emotions will pass right through your voice. You need to make the audience believe every word you sing, this is the best way to perform.
6 Have confidence! If you're giving it your all, you're already the best you can be. Just go out, and have fun.
Tips
Put your hands on your shoulders and breathe. If your shoulders go up, lay down on the floor. Now put your hands on your stomach. Breathe again. See how your stomach is moving. That is how you need to breathe when you are singing.
If you feel discouraged just do a small concert for someone who is very positive. Listen to their compliments. That will bring you back up.
If you are still wanting to give up think about your goal. Do you want to be a rock star or get in a musical? It doesn't really matter. It is your dream and that is what is important.
Try putting your hands about 1 or 2 inches away from your hips like you're doing a ballet recital. It'll give you more courage.
Warnings
If you start to sing without warming up, you can cause damage to your vocal cords. NEVER sing without warming up.
Don't force yourself to hit high or low notes if you can't reach them. This could strain your vocal cords.
Things You'll Need
Confidence
Talent
Your own sound
A positive attitude!
How do you become a singer?
Q. I was just wondering how you start when you want to become a singer. It's my passion to sing and play music, I'm always singing. I'm not a bad singer, but I'm also not amazing. It's my dream to have a career with singing, but I don't know where to start. Help? I'm 15, by the way. :)
A. First, the singing part:
1) Take singing lessons. Absolutely do not neglect this, even top singers who sell millions of recordings still take lessons.
2) Learning to play even basic chords on the guitar or piano can help so much with phrasing, timing, pitch and just understanding music.
3) Practice performing (in front of a mirror, make videos, etc.)
Hey, that's work! Yep, if you intend to come out on top of hundreds of thousands of others with the same dream to grab the 4 or 5 spots that open up for newcomers in a particular genre each year you better start working hard at it.
As far as career wise:
The American Idol type of path is a huge long shot. Good luck but more likely you move to a major music city L.A. or Nashville (Nashville isn't only country these days) or New York City. Start finding budding producers who need a demo singer. If you've become amazing by that point : ) word will get around fast as the demos get heard and eventually a bigger producer will use you on commercials or other master quality recordings. This will position you to either be directly be offered a development deal through a producer recommend to A&R or to market yourself to the record companies in town.
P.S. You need to develop as unique a style as possible both in terms of singing and performing. Don't pattern yourself after Miley or Christina or whoever, we already have all we need of those. Read this which will help you understand how/why:
