Piano???............................?

Q. can someone explain to me the piano/keyboard chords like whats a minor idk what it mean when ppl say now play b minor or sumthing and what r the black keys called and idk how to read sheet music

A. The black keys are sharps and flats. A sharp is one key above the note, and a flat is one key below the note.

When reading sheet music, these four mnemonic devices can aid you tremendously. In the treble clef (top section of music), the notes in the spaces spell "FACE", and the notes on the lines spell out EGBDF, or "Elvis's Guitar Broke Down Friday", going from top to bottom. In the bass (lower) clef, the notes on the lines spell out GBDFA, or "Good Boys Deserve Fudge Always", and the notes in the spaces spell out ACEG, or "All Cows Eat Grass"

There are four main chord qualities: Major, minor, diminished, and augmented.

A major chord is the 1st, 3rd, and 5th notes played in a scale. The chord's name is the same as the scale name (B major chord=B major scale).

In a minor chord, the 3rd note of the scale is lowered by one half step.

In a diminished chord, the 3rd and 5th notes in the scale are lowered by one half step.

In an augmented chord, the 5th tone is raised by one half step.

I will use a C chord as an example.

C major chord:
CEG

C minor chord:
C, Eb (flat), G

C diminished:
C, Eb (flat), Gb (flat)

C Augmented:
C, E, G# (sharp)

You can add flat, sharp, or normal 7ths, 9ths, 11ths, 13ths, etc. to your musical preference.

Original Question

for any piano players...?
Q. i really want to try and compose a piece of music, but i cant put together any chords that sound nice.
in the past i've gone from C major to G major to A minor to G major and back to C again, but thats the only group of keys i can make sound nice. sorry if it sounds complicated, but can anyone give me a few chords that sound nice after eachother?

A. Key of G Major : G - C - D7 - G
Key of C Major : C - F- G7 - C

Hey in fact pick any key and you can use the pattern
I - IV - V7 - I

Original Question

Piano keys - Labeling the chords?
Q. Ok, I'm sure this is an absolutely ridiculous question. I'm trying to teach myself to play the piano. I tried to learn when I was like 7, and on my old keyboard I labeled some of the keys with the chords. Or atleast I think it was the chords. The letters, CDEFGAB, etc.

But those are the only ones that are labeled, and I don't know if they're minor or major or what. I've got the chords for a song I want to learn, but I don't know how to label the keys so I know what to play.

So what I want is like a list or a picture of which are which.

Sorry this is so confusing. As you can tell, I don't know much about playing the piano.

A. I'll try to give you a rundown. You have the chords, you say. So if there is a small "m" after the chord, it means you need to play a minor chord. Otherwise, it should be a major chord.

Let's say you want to play a "C major chord." So start with C, which is called the "root." Now go up four notes from C (counting both the black and the white keys). You should be on "E". Now go up 3 notes from "E" (again, counting both white and black). That should put you on "G". Play "C", "E" and "G" all together and you've got yourself a C-major chord.

If you wanted to play a C-minor chord, reverse it...go up only three notes from C, and then four notes up to G. Play all those notes together, and there is your C-minor chord. This method works no matter what note you start from, even a black key if you want.

So remember...start with the "root" (indicated by the chord symbol note, whether major or minor), and for a major chord, go up 4 notes, then up 3 more notes. For a minor chord, go up 3 notes, then 4 notes.

Oh...and it helps to make sure ALL the white keys are labeled. Just go A through G like you do through the alphabet on all the white keys, in order, for all of them (the very lowest note on a standard 88 key piano is A).

Hope that helps!
