Q. I'm entering a talent show on sunday and i need a song!!! I'm a low singer and on the piano i play by chords (not sheet music) i want to sing something popular but with christmas. I wanted to sing "Welcome Christmas" from the grinch but i can't find the chords.
Any help would be awesome!
Nick
A. You need a fake book. A fake book, has just the chords, and doesn't really require you to read music. There are some Christmas examples below. However, that particular song from the Grinch, I was not able to find.
Where do I start to become a jazz piano player?
Q. I know how to read music by plying the trumpet when I was younger. Now I'm trying to learn piano on my own. Any ideas?
A. I agree - chords and scales. learn them in all 12 keys, all modes, all inversions.
You already know the treble clef from trumpet, but piano requires learning the bass clef too. I would start with any basic adult piano lesson book - Alfred, Bastien, Faber and Faber.
The Faber and Faber series includes a lot of supplementary pop and jazz music, so it would be a good choice for you. Don't skimp on the theory books either.
What kind of sheet music do you buy for a guitar player?
Q. I am looking to buy a few songbooks for someone who plays the guitar. She gave me a list of the titles she wants, but I am confused as to which ones to buy her. There is a P/V/C one, which I assumed stood for Piano/Vocal/Chords. Are the "chords" for guitar? Or is there a different kind that I should buy specifically for guitar? Please help!
A. Chords are nice but if there's something with guitar tabs, that would be specifically for guitar.
