Q. Hi, I was wondering if you guys know of any online reference or book with different chord voicing styles? Lol, I have writers block right now and need some inspiration. Thanks in advance.
A. "Chord voicing styles" ... I'm not sure what that means. Are you asking for a chord chart, inversion of chords, or progressions. I personally don't like the approach of writing music from a chord progression; I write melody first and then work on the harmony.
I don't have any ready reference for chord progressions, but you can go to http://www.pianoworld.com/fun/vpc/piano_chords.htm to build chords and scales.
I have a some questions about starting to play acoustic guitar?
Q. so i've been wanting to play guitar for quite some time and I finally obtained one so, now I am wondering how do i understand the notes because they are pretty confusing and i already play a instrument but there seems to be too many variation of notes, but anyways does a standard guitar chord chart i find on google sum up all of the notes i need to learn? or is there more to it, also are there any chords/scales i should learn first?
A. Ubgb... had some helpful hints and standard lesson directions to take where one is already familiar with the piano, but appears to have little reference for practical applications for the introduction to guitar. Let's get to the basics, and it would be good to have known what instrument(s) you are already playing.
The variations you may refer to are the particular note signatures as compared to performing piano chords and melody runs to that of guitar when it comes to staff/tab and chord guides on sheet music. The guitar is versatile, rather than being straightforward as the keyboard, that offers up variations of the same keys when one discovers the patterns to play and octave compliments available. 5ths, 7ths and augmented variations included.
Get a hold of some guitar chord chart/lesson books to get a foothold on what this all can mean and how to translate between the instruments and realize their relationships. All good in understnding when reading and writing music in general.
Once you get past the physical demands in learning the guitar (which will be the most important in the beginning) you will find out if it will be worth continuing depending upon your real desire and efforts put into such a project. Then it will be time to focus upon the real guts in learning the music and undestanding note, chord and progression techniques when having to read scores to play.
Many guitar magazine and book publications have been overshadowed by the dependence upon Internet sources. One (if it is still in publication) of my favorites use to be Guitar Player and another use to be Acoustic Guitar. I found they were a treasure of information and further learning tools over the years. A whole world of DVD material around as well at the music stores today of course.
Somewhere, around all of my reference material, I have an old standard piano keyboard lesson chart. It is a full size mock-up of the Messner (spelling?) scale printed on a stiff, folding cardboard sheet. The 'newer' ones were of formed, light guage plastic. It was the link for me when it came to learning both piano and guitar for reading and composing music.
All kinds of aids out there to get you into the world of music and the adventure in playing these great instruments.
And, welcome to the world of axes.
where can i find free piano chords?
Q. i cant read music notes so i need just the chords like C# B A....and so on
any help will be much appreiciated :)
thanks x
