Which song should I do for a coffeehouse performance?

Q. My school's doing a coffeehouse night in our commons, with a piano and people singing and accompanying themselves on guitar. I have very limited piano skills, so I'd really just play the intro and then just play the chords of a song with some arpeggios and stuff like that. Trouble is, I don't know which song to do. It's obviously gonna be one that's mild, not too big, with not too wide of a range. These are my thoughts:

"Pieces of Me" - Ashlee Simpson
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2at-k5J8yfk

"Hush" - Automatic Loveletter
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STkzdgW7ONs

"Just Keep Breathing" - Automatic Loveletter
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otqF1TOpG_M

"Make-up Smeared Eyes" - Automatic Loveletter
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBQzOEIOee0

"Jar of Hearts" - Christina Perri
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HH7WXlf9WLk

"Your Song" - Elton John (taken up the octave)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTa8U0Wa0q8

"So I Thought" - Flyleaf
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZU2ubRGb9g

"Suddenly I See" - KT Tunstall
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQNj3thCdco

"For a Pessimist, I'm Pretty Optimistic" - Paramore
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CunSd0uMyTQ

"Over and Over" - Three Days Grace (taken up the octave)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FoZuDe15_iA

ANY IDEAS? SUGGESTIONS?
Thanks!

A. Suddenly I See, I suppose. I think some Bob Dylan songs would be a better fit (since you're in a coffeehouse), but whatever.

Original Question

Not-to-hard Piano for beginners (playing for a year), interesting suggestions?
Q. I like learning pieces that are a bit challenging.
I've been playing for a year, passed my grade 1 with a merit in March.
I play mostly with a pam anderson book, but I've independently learned the following:

Most of Yan Tiersen's - Comptine D'une autre ete (got stuck at the right hand fast bit, couldn't coordinate still working on it.)

Very beginning of Claude Debussy's - Clair De Lune (Love the song, but only got about 10 bars in using a vid tutorial but went a bit fast for me.)

Most of Beethoven's - Fur Elise (Was easy, learned it before taking piano lessons. All I can't do it the left hand in the middle. for about 8 bars, the rest I know well)

Gary Jule's Mad World (like this song, and not hard on the piano. Nice to listen to.)

Easy version of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata - (really like this piece, wish I knew the more advanced version)

Left hand of transcription of Three Days Grace's - Never too late. (Love it on guitar, know the left hand and right hand seperately, hard to coordinate.!)

And a couple of others..

My favourite composer is Ludovico Einaudi.

Any easy pieces you could recommend to me? I like classical, but it's hard to learn.

Does anybody know anything similar to Yann Tiersen's piece? It was really good for me, not too hard to learn, pace was good, sounded fluent. Just failed in the coordination part.

Thanks. for any help

A. I agree with Prudence on the suggestion of To a Wild Rose. Beautiful and fairly easy piece of music. Here is a link to the song. The biggest difficulty with this song (for someone with only a year of playing) is that the great majority of it is chords in both hands at the same time (meaning you play around five or so notes at a time). Not too difficult though.

The only problem with this particular piece of sheet music is that it doesn't include the pedal markings, but I'm sure you could ask your teacher where they belong.

To give a few more suggestions (if a piece seems a little too hard, maybe your teacher could help you with it):

Here is a piece by Gioacchino Rossini

Here is a piece by Beethoven that is pretty easy and short
http://www.free-scores.com/download-sheet-music.php?pdf=12327#

Here is a piece by Haydn that is easy
http://www.free-scores.com/download-sheet-music.php?pdf=9698#

Here is a piece by Tchaikovsky that is relatively easy
http://www.free-scores.com/download-sheet-music.php?pdf=9307#

Here is a piece by Handel that is kinda easy with a little practice (it's slow though, so that helps)
http://www.free-scores.com/download-sheet-music.php?pdf=9334#

Here is a piece by Gustav Mahler
http://www.free-scores.com/download-sheet-music.php?pdf=12861
It may be a little too hard for you right now. The first half is easy, but the second half is a littler harder. It is fairly slow, so that helps. I don't expect you to be able to play it immediately, but maybe you can work on it. It is a really long piece of music, so don't worry about trying to get it right away. It's okay if it takes you a year or a little longer to learn.

Hope you enjoy my suggestions!

Original Question

What are some things I'm going to need to know about electric guitar?
Q. I play the piano and said when I said I wanted to play the electric guitar, my dad got this big glow in his face. He's going to buy me a guitar and he said that it won't be as easy as I think it will be. He isn't the smartest cookie in the jar and he's been trying to learn the guitar for like 12 years and can't even get it right he said. I do have a talent for instruments and I just want a summary of what I'm getting myself into. Can you please tell me some things I'm going to need to learn to play the guitar? thanks.

A. you're gonna need to know everything! get u a few simple books like "Fasttrack guitar", or "Guitar for dumbies" and learn the stuff in them.. you need to learn chords, harmonics, bends, alternating picking, notes, music theory (you shold have it covered if you play piano)..... it shouldn't be 2 hard since you already play piano

good songs to learn once you learn a few things:

Deep Purple - "Smoke On The Water"
Metallica - "Enter Sandman"
Three Days Grace - "Just Like You"
Three Days Grace - "Animal I Have Become"

a good way to impress your dad would probably be as soon as you pick up a guitar play a few power chords.... which is 2 frets apart on 2 strings.. play them on the top ones (thickest strings).. (idk if you will be able since you've probably never played a guitar but give it a shot)
